She earned her Bachelor of Science in Sports Rehabilitation and Health Science from Beijing Sport University and began her professional career as a physiotherapist at Parkway Health. In 2014, she pursued advanced studies in the United States, where she obtained both a Master of Science in Clinical and Translational Rehabilitation Health Science and a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from Marquette University in Wisconsin. Additionally, she later completed a post-professional specialization in Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy at Regis University in Colorado. Prior to joining Raffles Hospital, Ms. Joy Fan served as a senior physical therapist at Adventist Health Clear Lake Clinic for five years. During this time, she specialized in comprehensive patient assessments and developing individualized, evidence-based rehabilitation programs. Her clinical practice covers movement disorders resulting from musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiopulmonary, and geriatric conditions. She integrates manual therapy, acute and chronic pain management strategies, targeted functional training, patient education and home exercise programming to promote self-management and long-term recovery. Earlier in her career, Dr. Fan held clinical physiotherapy positions at Kindred Healthcare Glendale Memorial Hospital, a nationally recognized inpatient rehabilitation facility, where she delivered functional assessments and therapeutic interventions for patients recovering from neurological injuries, postoperative surgeries, and chronic geriatric conditions. She also practiced at the Tender Care Family Care Center, providing home-based physical therapy services. In this role, she regularly provided home visits to assess and treat individuals with mobility deficits due to surgical recovery or chronic illness, helping them improve functional mobility, activities of daily living, and overall quality of life. In 2025, Ms. Joy Fan was awarded the title of Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy (FAAOMPT). This fellowship is accredited by International Federation of Orthopaedic Manipulative Physical Therapists (IFOMPT), representing the highest internationally recognized level of clinical achievement in orthopedic manual physical therapy, and is considered one of the field’s most prestigious honors for therapists demonstrating excellence in clinical practice, education, and professional contribution. She is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), the American Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Association (AOPT), and American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy (AAOMPT), and she holds board certification as an Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) awarded by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties.
